Caravan to Solvang

Post by SLOroadster »

Since its getting closer to that time of year, is anyone from the Bay Area interested in doing a caravan south? In 2006 we had a good one. I'm planning on heading south on Friday at an unknown time.

Will,
I'm not from the Bay Area (Foothills east of Sac) but I'm considering going to Solvang this year - just haven't driven the roadster on a long trip for about 14 years Got it back on the road last November after a quick 10+ year redo of brake, carbs, gas tank, front suspension, etc. etc. etc!

But I'd be interested in a caravan and maybe meeting up somewhere along the way. Paul

I'll be leaving the Gilroy area around 10-11 am on Friday. I can join in if you plan on rolling by around that time.

Depending on work/weather, etc, I will be headed down south on 101 from San Jose sometime after 2pm on Friday. A Roadster caravan would be cool.

Cool, I like to see some interest in this. I'm pulling the car out this weekend to do some work on it. I'm leaning toward leaving in the morning.

Is anyone from San Diego going up to Solvang this year? If you are interested in joining a caravan contact me off of the forum (PM or email me). We have caravans meeting in Orange County and Riverside then meetting up with larger group in Woodland Hills.

Hey Phil,
Remember if you are interested, Tood is leaving from the Bowling Alley with a group to take through the Hills around Ojia (I believe) and come into Solvang from the back side, and I will be with a group going up the highway with those that want to cruise. I know there will be others that will want to go the highway and see how fast they can get there. I will be with the cruisers. Ii believe we all will be pulling out of the Bowling Alley around 1:00pm (after lunch). Those that show up after that will have to catch up or meet us there.

Looking forward to seeing you in Solvang one way or the other.

Dave,

Does that imply that you are not driving out?? With 10 days to go, you still have 5 before you have to leave-plenty of time to get the car ready

The original evil plan was to buy a running 1600 in L.A. area, register it in advance fly out and bring out the New Jersey plates. Would need to get it all dirty, and drive into Solvang. Just show up, park and wait for the reaction. Probably would need to go to the tanning booth and get a good farmer's tan to be convincing. Afterward, ship the car home. Saves $120.00 for the rental car as a bonus!

It ended up the 64 I bought in San Diego had no engine, so that shot that plan.

I'd love to drive out one year for real, just to do it, but I don't have that kind of time available.
