Engine Builder

Ok I offer this as just a question, not a sure thing. I pick up my new roadster tomorrow in Auburn CA. It comes with an additional U-20 that is not assembled but complete (as well as the 1600). As I understand nearly everything has been sourced thru Mike Kerr in Placerville and is either new or a very good original. My issue is that I can do nearly everything on a car but am not confident when it comes to engines. How much would a shop charge me to assemble? Or are there Northern CA guys on this board interested in earning some cash on the side? I am entertaining the idea of using the U-20 because of thier uniqueness and good power, but I'm not yet convinced I shouldn't sell it to the right guy who needs it and go a different route. Thanks again, you guys are great.

AJ,

If you really want it done right either take it to Mike Kerr to build or Mke Young. The problem with the U20 is that it is a unique motor in several ways-i.e.timing chain and sprocket setup and head/cam-valve clearances. I would not take it to a machine shop that was not familair with the motor. Either Mike would be your best bet. There may be someone else close that is knowledgable enough to help you put it back together but I would not count on that. Good luck.
