Seat Padding Replacement

Has anybody out there replaced the molded foam pads under the vinyl covers? Any tips?

While I drive, one side of my bum rides on the metal frame. It gets a little uncomfortable after a while, what with the stiff suspension and all. I took the seat out and removed the vinyl cover. I found that the foam pad has dilapidated on that corner. I was thinking I'd replace it with memory foam (the same thing they make those new high tech mattress pads out of). I'm thinking I'll try carving it a little, because I'm assuming that having it molded into the proper shape would be cost prohibitive.

So what have you done or think you might try?

I have had good luck carving foam with an electric carving knife, like the one you carve the Thankgiving turkey with. Hope this helps. Pat Mahoney '69 2000

That's what a guy in a foam shop told me a long time ago. I lube the blades up with WD-40 and it cuts like...like...like a knife

It's also probably a good idea to wait until the "significant other" is away from the house to do this. For some unknown reason they get upset when we do stuff like this. Hmm. Go figure.
