I think Panasports look great on almost any car.

I agree, wire wheels don't look right on Datsuns. Not sure why.

I'm with Leigh on the Panasports and the wires. I've seen Panasports on MGTD replicas, 60' cars and on brand new BMW's and they work on all of them. Price is the only hard part, at $460.00, I can live with little stubby spokes. Personally, I spent $100.00 for a set of old Westerns and painted the insides dark Graphite. Really fun to mask, hours per wheel. Dogs got bored and fell asleep. Came out nice and unique

As far as the rear fender lip rub, My thought was to weld on front fender chops sections to flare the wheel opening and raise it up a bit. Personal taste, the rear fender opening shape and height relative to the front always seemed to me to make it look like the car was low in the rear. I prefer the front and rear equal, more like a TR6. If the rear fender is rusty anyway, may as well flare it and fix it at the same time.

Westerns are great for the Dukes of Hazzard/ 70's era muscle car look.
Killer masking job. So where's the finished product? Pics of them mounted on your roadster?

Probably because the roadster never came with wire wheels? Didn't they come stock with steel wheels/hubcaps? Maybe that image is familiar to us.
MGs came with wires from the factory until the smogged Ro-style wheeled cars.
MGs run Panasports/KNs/knock-offs like there's no tomorrow!

Roadsters came with steelies and hubcaps from Yokohama.

I'm thinking that all of the wire wheels I've seen on Datsuns are fakes, and that is why they don't look right.

MGs, Jags, etc. had different hubs for wire wheels. Real wire wheels are not interchangeable with regular hubs.

They still wouldn't look right.

Dave:
When are you going to post some pics of your Westerns on the car?
I'm curious to see how the painted inside turned out.

My turbines are US Mag brand which look identical, but are just bright aluminum to maintain that muscle car look.
They will be kept as spares so I can switch back and forth from the new Superlites that I will be putting on shortly.(once we get out this -25F weather).
Nice thing about the turbines is that they are real easy to clean without having to remove them.
I still like the look of my turbines, but just needed a change for awhile to something different.

Just a minor correction.. the wheels are made by a company called "Performance", while "Superlite" is the name of that wheel style.

http://www.performancewheels.com.au/company.htm

I won't enter into the Superlite versus Panasport argument, except to say that the same diametre, the same width, the same offset and the same tyre will result in the same tyre/fender clearance, regardless of which wheel you are talking about...

Wire wheels on a Roadster are yucky??? I disagree....

One of the cleanest Roadsters that I've seen (although, not in person) was Barrie Strachen's

Unfortunately, I recall reading about it's tragic demise during the SoCal wildfires a few years back.

For those that don't remember, it was a super clean Red Roadster with classic wire wheels and custom bodywork and pinstripping. Hopefully someone still has a photo of that ride......

It was the Hood that made Barrie's Car.
He removed the bump down the middle. made a huge difference in the look.

Some please post a picture.

I don't take pictures.

datsun65 wrote:Hi Mike,

The Wheels are made by a company called Superlite. Pack Racing Products in Arizona, had a special on the rims for sale, $460 for 4 rims (14x6), lug nuts, valve stems and center caps. There is a very long, recent thread on the subject on the forum.
Those look great on your roadster. Did you specify the offset and backspacing? If so exactly what did you order? I MAY do something similar to my 67 1/2 if the cash comes through. Also what size tires are you running?
