2.8L V6

Post by FoxyRoadster »

I've seen the 3.8L GM and the 5.0L ford motor swaps but haven't seen a 2.8L anyone might know anything or have at least heard anything about it?

I'm currently sizing out the swap, I'll keep you guys updated on if I've decided to go through with it... Mostly just planning as my roadster is still in the first stages of a Frame up since weather has me on pause tell it warms up or I get a better heater.

Though.... I'm currently eyeing using the 3.0L from my ford ranger as its fuel injected.

(lol made this thread in the correct section this time)

The 2.8 would probably be a nice fit, as would the 3.0 as they both are 60 degree V6's. If you were to pursue this, you would probably have more choices as far as oil pans/manifolds/accesories, with the 2.8 as well as better aftermarket support. I would not figure either the GM or Ford for a performance application. The 2.8 came carbed, TBI injected and in multi port setups. You don't want to run the stock carb setup though, as it was an electronically controlled POS. There aftermarket 4bbl manifolds available. Not to turn you off, but you would probably be better off with a SR or KA swap as you will get similar power, less weight, and better reliability.

Well I'm looking at quite a few builds for the 2.8L and well it easily meets my demands and such. I'm mostly looking at the 60* motors and finding the right one for this datsun. I am even looking at the nissan ones, but who knows.

Mostly I'm wanting 200 to the wheels N/A, nice round number to look at for the car.

Well, 200 at the wheels would be roughly 230-240 at the crank. Most current V6 multi valve engines are putting out those numbers but I think you would have some diffuculty getting those #'s from a domestic 2 valve pushrod engine. Not saying it couldn't be done, but probably difficult without forced induction. If you really want 200 at the wheels, you will most likely need to look into newer japanese multi valve engines or domestic 90 degree V6's that would require a lot of tweaks to fit between the fenders. Check this out to get an idea.

I've seen hot rodded Mercury capri 2.8L v6 engines...the late model Ford/Camaro V6's make over 200(crank), and like you said they are EFI.

well EFI options are still available but there is quite a bit can do to this motor as the aftermarket is somewhat healthy, this motor will not stay stock will be stoked and bored right off the bat.. I'm looking at something with a little room to grow as the 2.8L is about the same size as the 3.4L might end up with the 3.4 if I can find one over the 2.8L with 5 speed.
