Zetec nip and tuck

Post by AKBarratt »

I had planned for a sr20 swap into my roadster after much deliberation. Then It was not near as easy to find one as I thought it might be, so I started looking for something easier to find.

The plan is to rejuvenate the roadster, take 30 years off its insides, and modernize at the same time. Only fitting since it has passed down a generation. So Pondered it a while.

The answer was 3 blocks from my work. No less than three Zetec Ford Contours in a junkyard down the street. Two were Moose hit totals and one rear-ended. I traded the owner one saturday of work for a 97 moosehit 2.0/5spd one and a t-5 out of a turbocoupe (also in the yard).
Update:
Got the T03 turbo out of the turbocoupe too...Hmmm...Wonder what that could be for?
So there it is, as soon as I get the roadster up here, I will be swapping in the Zetec. And yes, It will be documented here.

For ease of install, I am going to buy a bellhousing from Quad4rods.com and building most everything else. I am not a machinist or an engineer, so it won't be Nasa quality, but I'll try:)

If you've got the time, it's surprising what you can build with a drill press, some hand tools and lots of elbow grease.

I second that a drill press is all you really need.

A drill press, a hacksaw and a file is pretty much all I used.

Oh, and a hoist. You need a hoist -- that sh*t is going to go in and out so many times....

On another topic, have you given any thought to documenting your build? I was really interested in the Zetec swap, but was turned off by, among other things, difficulty I had sourcing the little bits between the engine and the transmission (e.g. the spigot bearing & the like). If you could record somewhere, like in this forum or, even better, on a website, what you buy, what you fabricate and how it all goes together as you work, I'm sure many people would really appreciate it.

I personally found that recording my build "for posterity" as it were, had the added benefit of encouraging me to really think through my solutions and make them as clean and sensible as I could, since I knew that others were watching (theoretically) and might even want to follow.

Anyways, just a thought.

GOOD LUCK.

Sorry, man. I didn't even notice that you already said you'd be documenting it here.

Very excited to see the progress as it unfolds!

Best,

Jesse.

Sounds like an excellent plan
Jackson Racing make a supercharger for the Zetec, roush has a turbo kit too!
Think the T03 will be laggy on a 2L?

I'm thinking Supercharger, they whine nicley. Marks was scary normally aspirated. Then again, Mark was driving...
