Re: Cool License Plates?
Well, I find it hilarious that I can get 32 MPG in a 40 yr old car with 60 yr old carburetors, and the aerodynamics of a chicken coop cruising 70-75 mph, while new cars with computer controlled fuel injection can't get 30. My wife's 2005 Suzuki will get 30 if you cruise steady at 60 on the highway, her driving. Me driving, it's around 26-28.Alvin wrote:You would actually put this on your roadster's plate?dbrick wrote:

Point taken though, might be better on the plate frame.

My plate is the same as my forum handle - Datsa 66
I always envision someone driving down the road and upon seeing my car saying "Hey! That's a 66!"
I have gotten into the habit of pointing to the license plate when people ask what year the car is (although I don't try to do that when I am driving it!)

I'd like to stencil "32 MPG SINCE 1966" if there was any way to do it without looking tacky.dbrick wrote:Well, I find it hilarious that I can get 32 MPG in a 40 yr old car with 60 yr old carburetors, and the aerodynamics of a chicken coop cruising 70-75 mph, while new cars with computer controlled fuel injection can't get 30. I'm thinking about a few little "Wyle E Coyote" style signs, you can just hold them up one at a timeDatsa 66 wrote:My plate is the same as my forum handle - Datsa 66

No, it's a Datsun
Yes, they did, 1964-1970
No, it was before the MG
My Wife gets a little nervous, people gawking at the car tend to either tailgate or hang one lane over and next to the rear tire, staring, pointing, and usually veering closer. The flame thrower on the tailpipe is seeming like a good solution.

I can relate to that license plate. Currently mine is 66DTSUN. I always like to get the year in if at all possible.Datsa 66 wrote:My plate is the same as my forum handle - Datsa 66
I used to have a plate called RDSTRFN (Roadster fun). Kinda funny, I had a few folks say "Rastafarian" or "Road Street Fun." But I rather liked this one... "Road Strafing."

Should have 'Turbo" on the license frame. Though maybe they can figure that out as you leave them in the dust! he, heSettled for RGTOP.

Re: Cool License Plates?
Being a great fan of Kenneth Grahame (The Wind in The WIllows), I initially tried for MR TOAD. Certainly it was taken as was MR TOAD1 - 8.
Not wanting to be MRTOAD9 and thus declaring my lack of originality to all, I thought hard. Both versions of ELIZA/ELISA were taken (hopefully they are on a roadster somewhere) and although a later numeric version of one of them was available, for the previous reason, I declined.
Now what?
Japanese car, Toad theme AHA !
TOAD SAN (Mr Toad in Japanese)
Hopefully I will get Elisa running soon - beautiful paint job and original rear end design currently sitting in the garage.
By the way, in searching the California DMV site I found out that TWUK and TWAILER are still available. I could just see a Datsun Pickup towing a rear clip trailer behind it displaying those plates.

Re: Cool License Plates?
On a note of how people interpret license plates.
My Volvo is MRAITCH (the DMV dropped the space between the MR and the AITCH for some reason when the original car was totalled by a young lady on a cellphone who mistook me for an ARMCO barrier at 55 mph on a surface street, and I have never been able to get the space back).
In times past I had a room mate and we were H (harrison) and J (jackson) and being english I formalised it to MR AITCH (to you-indeed sir).
Now I sometimes get MR High Tech?? (clever indeed)
My favorite/cleverest, actually seen by me on the highways, was on a white volkswagen convertible rabbit:
ML8 ML8 (obvious when you say it, but masterful in its creation.)
Another suggested by a cousin (though you have to imagine the English pronunciation of the anal orifice to really get it) is
URNASOL
and if you are predisposed to fast and inconsiderate driiving and don't mind flaunting it then
IMNASOL will suffice.
I would like to hear about other fun and or appropriate plates.
( I hope this passes the censors )
