My new '68 or '69 1600

Post by SoCalSchlegels »

Hi All!
We are first time owners of a 1968 (I Think) Datsun roadster. I am hoping to take it all apart and put it back together again. I have a million questions but I will start off with just one. I say I think it is a 1968 because the ad said "1968" and the Vin# is in the 1968 range. Somethings point to '68 (according to various sources on the internet) but it had side marker lights (previous owner through them away) like the '69 and the Pink Slip says 1969. The fusebox is in the glove box. '69? Also the rear bumper has a middle license plate light and a indent on the bumper to accommodate it and only one backup light. '68? If it is in fact a 1968 I would like to get the pink changed. But even more I would like to figure it out so when someone asks what year it is I can tell them. We look forward to meeting some of you at the car shows!
Thanks for the help.

How active is the SoCal Roadster club? Are there any regular meetings? I joined it but I never heard from anyone and I am not on the member list.

Yeah, we are out here in SoCal.

contact Chris, who puts out a newsletter, at:
socalroc@gmail.com

Regular meetings? nothing regularly scheduled, but we have caravans to all the local roadster events, had 4 members in 3 entries in the Iron Bottom (see NFIBMT word search), and have a fun run to see Ron Carter race in Coronado towards the end of this month.

Welcome! I just moved from OC (Huntington Beach) to barely-over-the LA-county line in Los Alamitos, but there are several roadster folks in the area.

I can send you the latest newsletter, which has more contacts.

Check the top front edge of your dash, just behind the windshield glass, is there a VIN plate there? If so, you're at least a "late" 68, and possibly a 69.

The "early" 68's did not have a VIN plate attached to the dash. My 68 is that way and I can post pictures of it. There are other ways of ascertaining a year, but this is just one.

The 68 fuse box for example had a straight lineup of fuses (6 if memory serves) whereas the 69 had a few more. I'm sure someone will pop in with better information.
