Shoot some video !!

Post by FairladySPL »

I've been poking around YouTube to see Roadster videos, and notice it's mostly material shot at various tracks. That's great stuff, and most impressive to hear a set of Solex at full cry. There's also a fairly healthy batch of slide shows consisting of stillframe photography.

Wondering here if there's interest in now building out the archives to include video of various excursions, shows, and walkarounds. Maybe this would encourage folks to showcase their stock drivers, restoration projects and weekend drives.

Considering how much video there is for (cough, cough) other sports cars of the vintage, I'm hoping we can boost our presence too.

Thoughts ?

I'm uploading some race action as I type. Its taking a really long time however. Its a good display of how much of a handful my car is with worn out race tires. I spun 3 times. Rather embarrassing, but entertaining to watch none the less.

Oh yeah, I think Alvin posted one of me running down the front straight at Thunderhill race way back in 2006.

Cool !
Please post the links.
I wonder what the best search tagwords are.

Your signature post talks about eating Porsches. A friend of mine who did autocross with an ugly but very fast Solex '68 used to regularly embarrass Porsche drivers among the parking lot cones.

Polishers, he called them.

Always enjoyed watching that.

For what ever reason the video won't upload. I spend all last evening trying to get it to go but no luck.

Yeah I run with the PCA sometimes, they aren't a big fan of me when I have fresh tires.

Hi Paul you'll find a couple of my racing videos on Youtube.

Try keywords: Datsun, Roadster, HSR, VARA, Cal, Speedway. Or my youtube handle is rcs240z.

I am pretty sure there is a link to my videos in my signature section below.

Ya. no problem finding Datsuns at speed around various circuits.

Instead I am trying to find (and generate) more footage at shows, walkarounds, and road trips.

For example,
There's a California Roadster owner on YouTube that began coverage of his road trip to Washington, DC and back.

The first installment takes us through the Rocky Mountains on his way East, and there's a wrapup segment with the car back home again.

Cool stuff, I don't have the link handy. He's probably got more in the works.

I'm guessing that may be Peter Harrison. He's on the mailing list, but I don't believe he's here on the forums.

Yes, a "59 year old driver" in a "37 year old car."

Must be one of those May-December relationships.

His video, above, is among those now on YouTube that include a "watch in high quality" option right near the views counter. He did a nice shoot with this footage, one of two parts he has posted thus far. Even rolled out some credits at the end just like an MGM production.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of his 8,700 mile trip in his Roadster. This is the kind of footage that can showcase stock, street cars alongside the good archival compilation of track footage that can already be found.

With enough prompting I might be persuaded to post the infamous "FairladyWays." A short film starring a few local owners!

Prompt, please.

Sounds like it's already produced?
I'd enjoy even the "raw" footage, so this should be a real treat.

OK! Posted. Here's the story of "FAIRLADYWAYS" (the title is a takeoff on the then popular "Sideways" which also took place in solvang)..This video was made on our trip to Solvang in 2006. It was a fictional story about trying to find my brother a Roadster. It was originally 22 minutes long but youtube only allows 10 so I cut it down to just the roadster stuff. My favorite part is the opening featuring a creative Roadster camera mount.
ENJOY!!

ps. If you like it tell a friend. My brother is already famous (Rodney Eastman IMDB) and I'd like to be!

Okay, okay, which part of this video is "fictional" as you describe it in the YouTube text introduction?

§ Is it the 34 Roadsters I counted on the walk through that starts at TRT 7:06 ??

§ Or is it the prices asked for the Roadsters "for sale" in the corral there.

WOW what a show.

Thanks for posting.

---------

In the side pane "Related Videos" alongside yours, a couple of additional Roadster walkarounds popped up, recently posted, that I had not yet seen.

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(DRC series tags, our Aussie friends with RHDs)

And a nice-sounding 2000 with a crooked steering wheel.
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(woman's voice makes encouraging woo woo sound, that's great !)

Also seen for the first time, a three-part video of a rusty '69 2000 that has been for sale on ebay somewhere, price tag face down, includes a flappy front fender ("Solid !" says the narrator, but it's apparently not his car.)

Paul,

That is from Solvang about two or three years ago. Both sides of the street are covered with roadsters. At least 50 show up year in and year out. That was the last year that Bob Klemme and I both showed up with our racing roadsters his was the yellow #61 mine is obviously #33. He sold that car this last summer for $57,000.

Tim Minor, who was intereviewed in that movie has had some of the nicest 67.5 2000's around and has sold a couple of his 67.5's for big numbers.

Hope you can make it out to solvang one of these years as it is a great show.

Excellent details thank you.

It's amazing that anyone can have their hands on more than one 67.5 2000 in a given lifetime. The non-US '68 2000 Solex (factory correct) that I was involved with acquiring was the only one I've ever driven.

I've got to get my friend off his a'send to repair and restore the 67.5 Solex 2000 he's had for 20 years, languishing under garage detritus. He got it from a guy I met who was running it as a daily driver, a mechanic at a Nissan dealership. Once he got it home, it retreated to the status of "secret project" and we've never seen it since.

Hmmm.
