Hi Nick,

Sorry to recurrect an old thread, but was this one on eBay, located in / near Engadine, and bought from someone called Graeme who owns plenty of other Datsuns ?

If so, I was the underbidder in the auction  .

Only recently found this site as I've just today become the proud new owner of TWO fairlady's that were on eBay in Canberra. Well, I've won the auction, just have to work out the logistics of moving both cars up to Newcastle.

Cheers,
Dave

Hey Dave... welcome to the site...you will find this an invaluable source of information, ridicule and satire.
Good luck with the cars..... I saw them and was very tempted. for 3.5k a bargain really . Kiss goodbye to the next 4 years of weekends. Something funny happened on that auction. I think i got the car for cheap.
If you need a hand you can pick me up on the way through!!! :D

Nick,

Something funny did happen indeed with your car. At the time I didn't think it was funny though.

I'd placed a bid early on for what I thought the car may have been worth (without seeing it), then after taking it for a test drive I was prepared to go a bit higher.

I was all set to jump in at the last minute with a higher bid (as you do  ), just had to press the "Confirm" button on eBay.

Pressed it and nothing happened - my broadband connection had chosen that time to drop out  The wife reckons I just wasn't meant to own it.

I was only going up to $7100 though - not sure if that would have been high enough.

Advice tip #1 - ASK THE FORUM - yep, I think I'm going to have plenty of questions over the next few months / years.

Yeah.... it was up around 7100 and then something happened cos i ended up getting it for 6200!!!! It was my turn anyway..... got out bid on another on about 6 months prior by 100 bucks.

You will have heaps of fun with yours though! what are you going to do?

My one.... need to replace the dizzy with an electronic version. then it shoud be up and running.Replaced all the steering, which was a bit dodgy as you may recall. It actually locked on me ... so could have been a problemn!! Bits and pieces to make it look nice have been sourced/replaced. New steering wheel gives me a bit more leg room.

What about that yellow one for 7K in victoria???

Yeah, yours had got up to well over what I wanted to pay then a bidder withdrew and it dropped right back down to my high bid of something like $5500 :?: Strange auction as you say.

I was seriously considering the yellow one. Didn't look too bad - personally I wouldn't have chosen those wheels, but that's easily fixed. Was also looking at one on tradingpost for $3500 that looked to be pretty reasonable.

The plan for mine is to restore the white 1600 to completely original condition. The blue 1500 I'm not sure about. Apparently the motor (not original anyway - its been fitted with a 1600) has been left with the head off, and has ingested water.

Once I get them, I'll check it all out and decide what to do with that one. Assuming I can fit it all into the shed, that is  . I already have two 1600's (sedans of the 510 variety) and a 180B SSS coupe (610 for the US guys) tucked away in the shed.

The wife is making noises about one of them becoming hers, which would involve converting it to auto as she can't (won't) drive a manual  . If that ends up being the case, I thought an SR20DE and auto may be a nice thing to do to the blue one, although my preference would be to not modify them.

Good new is I'm making the first trip down to Canberra on Saturday to get one :smt001

And thanks for the welcome to the forum !!
