Roadster Brake Sensor Rubber Bump Stop
Hi, I'm trying to figure out a simple fix for replacing the late model brake sensor stop of the pedal, the small rubber pad with the nipple on the back of it. A friends brake lights keep coming on and he finally figured out that the rubber pad is half dissolved, and it fell apart trying to remove it. I'm not even sure if this part even available.... thanks ahead of time... Bill

Bill,
The local Pep Boys has a big supply of rubber bumpers in stock. Surely one could work as a replacement.

Yes, that is it. In the mean time I found the perfect part to use, it is one of the small end plugs that came with an aftermarket door gasket kit from Dean. It looks like the one in your photo.
I had and extra late model brake pedal in the garage and it looks like it was made to fit, we'll install it tomorrow. Bill

Re: Roadster Brake Sensor Rubber Bump Stop
The rubber bump stops on the door jams of most commercial steel doors work great. there are usually 3, and as soon as the door frame warps, it only hits one of them. General ettiquette is to steal only the unused one.

Re: Roadster Brake Sensor Rubber Bump Stop
I think the common road repair for this condition is to bend the switch mounting clip so that the switch plunger contacts the metal frame - misses the hole with the rubber grommet - with no downside effects. I think some have duct taped a quarter over the hole and found that works too.

I tried the quarter and tape over the hole in the late 90's, that must explain why last week I found a nickel laying on the carpet...LOL..

Re: Roadster Brake Sensor Rubber Bump Stop
Sorry for resurecting such an old thread but Daves's suggestion of bump stops from steel doors is a near perfect match. They are called "steel door silencers" at Home Depot and $4 for a pack of 10. Although they were only $4, I hate throwing the other 9 away if someone could use one. If so, PM me with your address and I'll drop one in the mail for you.
