As I have just removed and replaced my Tacho this morning I thought I would post the procedure to help anyone else faced with this job..
Firstly disconnect the battery, remove the under dash cover, remove the 4 bolts that secure the bottom of steering column to firewall, remove wiring plug from below wheel on column, also small plug and 2 seperate wires, remove 4 bolts that hold up steering column, lower column and jiggle to free it from firewall and slide it out being carefull not to get caught up on anything, the shaft is in 2 pieces and the top half will slide out, no need to remove the Steering wheel,( Top is best to be down ) undo the Tacho cable, remove the 2 bottom dash light fittings, remove the 2 wing nuts that hold the Tacho in place, now lower the tacho and remove the other 2 dash lights be careful not to scratch the perspex cover, I found that when replacing Tacho it was best to put topmost wing nut on about 6 threads, and cut a slot in the mounting hole to slide over the thread, this made it fairly easy to replace, the rest is just a reversal not the best job but fairly straight forward....
