Hood River, OR this spring or early summer?

Post by shifty »

Exit64 (Mike) and I are thinking of hosting a roadster run sometime this spring or early summer.

We're 60 miles east of Portland on the Columbia River. The drive from Portland is really nice. There are also some great drives around here. Maryhill, WA has a Stonehenge replica that is a great photo-op. Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood is a great destination. Hood River is "the wind surfing capital of the world", plus we've got the Full Sail brewery and some decent wineries!

Last year there was a huge Mini gathering here, as well as one for Rolls Royces.

Thinking of folks coming in on Friday or early Saturday, a Saturday morning drive (3-4) hours followed by a BBQ.

Any interest?

If no scheduling conflicts, you can count on Gordon and I to come down. Thanks for additional incentive to get the 411 working!

This sound like a great day and I'd love to join in. And I should have all the kinks worked out on my car by then. Keep me posted.

I suggest you guys put up a website with some info on the possible routes, places to stay including state parks, things to see etc. It helps to generate some interest and helps the frequent publicizing often necessary to get a turn-out. If it were me I would also pick a time when the weather is the best.
Here's a good weather link:

It's beautiful up in Oregon, great for a drive.

I take it you're not familiar with the slogan "People in Oregon don't tan, they rust."

Let's get a date nailed down asap. That way I can start woking on getting a group rate for the Best Western. Keep in mind that town is busiest with the wind junkies from June- August. There's a chance that the rooms will sell out if we pick the wrong weekend. HR does have one of the best 4th of July parades and fireworks shows that I have ever seen for a town of this size. Blossom Fest weekend in April might be a good time for a gathering. The weather is usually very good and there is a ton of stuff for everyone (wives) to do. Also the valley is in full bloom and very beautiful. I think the WAAAM is also having a fly in at the airport that weekend so what could be better than cars and planes? For those that wwant to camp, I have a big backyard and a couple of spare couches in the house. I will get the Blossom dates figured out in the next day or two.

Might there be an extra seat if someone wants to fly in and hang out?

Nevermind, I'm not coming

Between Leigh and I there is probably even an extra car. Depends on whether I can get the 2000 dialed in by then.

Here's a few links for everything you wanted to know about Hood River, Ore and were afraid to ask:

I like the webcams. Imagine some Roadsters getting in front of them and then the owners waving to you :) Looks like great driving country. Hope this helps generate some publicity for your event!

This meet sound interesting.
The drive is only 24 hours West without a break.

At that time of year I would have to choose which path would be best to get thru the mountains.( Canadian side or States side).
I would definately want to have my heater core checked before venturing out on that long of a spring jaunt.

Has anyone tried one of those heated seat covers that plug into the cigerette lighter? Will the wiring system handle it?

I'll have to run this roadtrip idea by the wife.

Thats not a R16 death rattle....its a dried leaf hitting my heater blower fan.
