I recently rescued a 66 1600 VIN# SPL31104673....from the junkyard (SF Bay Area). A favor by the owner was owed me, so this was my payment, heh. Most of the original parts are there minus the speedometer. I have started deconstruction. Rodents and the weather trashed the interior and soft top. The previous owner painted over the chrome. reason unknown. Even has the original jack, which looks like fun to play with.
Misc, dents and rust, floor pan will be replaced.
This will be a complete off-frame restore. Don't know yet If I will customize or keep stock.
If I customize, I will swap, sell or donate original parts not used.
I estimate I should have it running by the little roadsters' 50th birthday.

My first mistake was assuming the fasteners were metric.

I am still looking for the cupholder.

Welcome! I too have a '66 1600. When you find the cupholder let me know. I can't even hold a cup between my legs when I drive this car. I have to make sure I am full of coffee before I hit the road in it.

Welcome - you're one step ahead of me (I'm roadsterless)!

Make sure and take some pictures of the "before" state, so that you can look back on it a few years from now and see how far you've come. Sometimes that can get forgotten in the excitement of it all.

I have been informed, haven't verified it yet, that the armrest, with slide out cupholders, from a Volvo 850 fits the console on late cars and replaces the original lid.

Maybe your friend in the junkyard will let you snoop around

Welcome to the fray. You have a great resource in the bay area of Mike Young if you need some hard to find parts. --and yes, that is a plug. He may even have a retro 60's hang on the door cup holder. Sounds like a real project. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip, Steve...this is a great site for information. With all the written information and pictures, I pretty much know what is what on this little car. Now that I found out what the little knob on the dash if for (rear view mirror)...I can proceed tearing this car apart with confidence ...as of now I am keeping her as stock as possible. I have dreams of modifications, such as recessed door handles, flaring fenders for wider stance etc, using a 2000 yr plus Nissan donor car for engine trans differential swap. But.....I have enough to do with just cleaning everything, repairing the body work, interior, wiring and all the little and major things you are all familiar with. Oh, and I'll look for a roadster meet in this area, since...uh...I have never seen one in the flesh, umm.........in the metal?...lol, anyways thanks for the welcome.
I'll post pictures soon, the paint job the PO did will crack you up, they must have been out of masking tape that day at the hardware store.

...and I thought they were all SAE on my '66. Turns out we're both wrong; they're a mix.
