Well, I've loved these cars for years and I finally took the plunge: 1966 Datsun Roadster 1600, California car, original family-owned. For the past year, I've had my eye on early Alfa Spiders, Triumph TR-6/4's, MGB's and the Datsuns. I've always been partial to the Roadster after having watched them raced extensively in SCCA competition way back when. Although I was infatuated with higher powered cars at the time, the little Datsun made two-seat roadsters cool.
I've driven Miatas for the past ten years but I've owned a few vintage cars along the way. It's funny how these older cars keep calling you back. It's a kick to drive! I'm thinking a set of Panasports to complete the look. Click on the link for pics.http://www.flickr.com/photos/12622120@N ... 11/detail/

Glad to see you made it over from miata.net!
Very nice looking car! Looks like someone put '70 fenders on the car. It has '70 sidemarkers and turn signals.
That car is super clean!

Thanks for the comments guys! Shifty, thanks for the 311s.org tip too. Yes, the previous owner installed the later style fenders... looks great. The car underwent a major refurbishment about 12 years ago... new fenders, paint, engine and transmission overhaul, suspension bits, bushings, misc. hardware, etc. The stack of reciepts is pretty thick.
I bought the car from a guy named John File whose father purchased it in '66. The records go back to '72 with a detailed list of all the work over the years. Amazingly, the car still has the original spare wheel and tire! Owner's manual, too. The car can't claim complete originality, but the tradeoffs are acceptable considering the overall condition. The rebuilt engine is from another Roadster and the paint color is actually Porsche Guards Red. Mr. File also removed all the insignia prefering the clean appearance. I actually rather prefer insignia, so there might be a few additions down the line. Other than that, it's fairly complete.
So, another owner in Gilroy?? Very cool... I guess I'll be sending an email.
I look forward to a few fun runs in the future!

The car is a beauty even with the later fenders. Have you entered the car in the registry? Welcome to the fray.
