Blinker/Flasher Cans

Post by SlowBoy »

Those big honkin stock blinker/ flasher cans are a pain to replace because I can't find one and they're easy to bend. :( This does not keep you from having the stock look.

Someone had zipped stripped a new blinker can in the 66 but was nice enough to leave the old one. Tacky, just plain tacky!

First, I rounded out the three crimps at the bottom of the original can. Then I took a dentist tool and scraped around the brown wafer edge glued to the can until I could pop out the insides. If you have to use a glue remover and let it sit. Cleaning the can in silver jewelry dip made it purrrrty. I then took a new smaller blinker can and pushed it in the bottom. It is a nice snug fit and has that original look because you cannot see the bottom of the can on the 66 as it faces the fire wall. :D

I finally got to pull the blinker can out and take some pictures.

Excellent. Should keep me from losing points at Pebble Beach. 8)

Seriously, do people look under the dash to check the size of the blinker can?

Beats me! Probably at the hundred pointer.

On our cars these cans are held in with a screw/bolt. On the 66 & 67 it is up by the column and the late model has them up at the kick panel.

I did not like the idea of finding a new home for the replacement.

Hey Jim,
I had that really tacky aftermarket look on the car with the blinker can hanging and then did what you suggested even before the pics! I cleaned the OE can up and put new can inside, very easy. I'll bet blinker cans show up on EBAY so everyone can get those PB points.

Ahhh, now it all makes sense. Probably even more so once I pull the dash for those behind-the-dash projects. :smt023

There's more than one way to interpret that?
