SR20 Wiring

Post by andrew »

Hi,
I am looking into getting a wiring loom (complete) sorted for my roadster.
Does anyone have any ideas about what modifications are necessary to a standard 68 2000 loom when fitting an SR20DE.
I am contemplating on getting a new loom manufactured by a company over here but if there are alot of wiring modifications required where it interfaces with the cars standard loom i may look at alternatives.
Thanks.

A custom loom integrated into the standard loom would be a bit rich I would have thought.
Usually, you add the EFI loom to the existing, is that what you mean?
Are you using the OEM Nissan ECU and loom, or are you planning to use an aftermarket one like Haltech for example.
You do specify an SR20DE so I guess there is no turbo.
If that is the case, then an EFI conversion can be had with a very small loom and minimum wires involved.
That wiring can be overlaid on the existing wiring and be virtually unnoticeable.
I added a Haltech F9 to my Datsun 1600[P510] years ago to control an FJ20DE and there is really bugger all to it 8)
Even using the Nissan loom from a front cut you can strip out a heap of wiring that is superfluous and make it quite simple.
A N/A SR20 into a Roadster, Mmmmmmmmm, sounds great
Nissanman, just trying to help.

The 240sx or whatever they are called in OZ has an engine loom that is separate from the rest of the car wiring. You just dedicate a power wire from the fuse box for the ECU and everything works out well. There are a few other connections that need to be made, but you really don't need any special wire loom custom made. The only problem with the 240sx loom is that it is pretty long. You will end up with about 6 feet of extra wiring. You may be able to cut and splice all the wires so they are shorter. It would be a big chore because there are bunches of wires. I just coiled mine up and zip tied them away. In my race car I use a small lawn mower battery. The battery, ECU, and the extra feet of loom all fit in a battery box which is bolted to the passenger floorboard. I'm sure a much more elegant solution could be found.

Thanks for that,
After reading my post again i see that i may have caused some confusion.
I currently have 2 very tired looms for the roadster. Having seen another post relating to wiring looms with referance to an Australian vendor i was contemplating ordering a new loom to save me the headache of sorting the old ones. As i am fitting the SR in the roadster (with the origonal SR loom and ECU) i thought if there was too much modification to a standard loom (for the swap) i wouldnt consider a new loom. I would hate to get a new loom and have to heavily modify it to do the swap.
By the sounds of it if it there is not too much integration into the cars origonal loom therefore getting a new loom may be the way to go.

Thanks again.

Just curious if the SR20 guys out there used the above mentioned diagram or a different setup?

I need to wire my harness to the EZ wiring setup I have to finally drive the lady, and want to make sure it is correct.

Thanks for the input.
