SoCal Area - Reputable Shop for Engine Rebuild or Swap

Post by CombuSTIon »

Well, the inevitable has finally happened and my poor old R16 motor has finally suffered some serious bottom end failure and will need some serious rebuild work. My debate at this point is to find a reputable Datsun motor/fabrication shop and either rebuild the existing motor and take the time to massage it back to perfect or possibly just to swap in a newer motor all together. What local shops would you all recommend? I am willing to travel within reason if it means that it is done right… Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

SoCal sources for engine rebuild

Post by FergO2k »

while the R-16 is not as quirky and different than other roadster motors, I'd still stick with knowledgeable vendors vs other engine rebild resources. this will involve some travel inevitably.

There is always Les, and his resources. (can you say "stroker" ?)
there are some beautiful (and recent) examples of rebuilds, and restores, from him.

Troy at Too Intense:

I know a few I have seen at Alt Z in HB, but I don't know if Tony takes his motor rebuilds to Troy as well. Tony is a great guy, loves when you bring your own parts, and doesn't do non-essentials unless you ask him. great guy, great work.

(cheesy website)

Dean lists engine resources as well.
