Soft top

I picked up a nice soft top from an ad in Hemmings Motor News. The guy is back east. He has both high and low windshield tops. $200 shipped. I think the tops might be made by Robbins tops in L.A. but I'm not sure. It looks to be a high quality top, but time will tell.

It is probably Sidney Levine. His company is Auto Enthusiasts. He has raised prices a lot recently - the prices were about $135 plus shipping. I think that is because he changed suppliers. He used to sell Crown tops (the same ones Whitney sold for years), but they are in Ohio iirc. I have one of Sidney's tops - my wife bought it for me for Christmas! (gotta love that in a woman!) I have started installing it - have all of the inside snaps in place and the rear bar, but ran out of daylight before I got any further. He always advertises in Hemmings - he is often on Ebay as well.

Sid,
you have the right guy. I guess one of his suppliers went out of business or quit making tops for roadsters so the one I have was made in Sothern CA. That is why I thought it might be Robbins making the top.

The Crown tops are the ones that a lot of folks on the list poo-poo'd as being poor quality. Robbins has a fantastic reputation. I have worked with both and don't see an appreciable difference. The best looking top I ever installed was a Crown top. I always had a preference for the leather grain vinyl - but that seems to be disappearing from some offerings. I have had good service from both top manufacturers.

Of course, I would love to have a black canvas top, but I just cannot justify the expense. Maybe when I win the lottery.....

Yeah, I thought that might have been Sidney. I purchased a top from him several years ago for the purple beast. It was easy to install, fit well and still looks great. I am with Sid as I prefer the grainy look of the vinyl tops. I have a cloth top but decided not to use it. To each thier own.

The price has gone up though - plan on $200.

There are probably more out there with variable prices. Of course, if you want good quality, known to fit with no problems tops, buy one from one of your Friendly Roadster Vendors!

Thanks for the info Sid. Dont want to spend to much, since
it will rarely be up. I have a perfect hardtop for it to. I'm still
building a stroker motor to go in it, so most of the money
is accounted for.

I hate my hardtop. Its loud, it rattles, squeeks and I don't fit under it. It also makes my rearview mirror useless and has a HUGE blindspot behind me. My soft top gave me 3 inches of headroom (no more hitting my head on the roof everytime I hit a bump in the road.) If I ever use the hardtop again it will be too soon.
