Valve Clearance COLD?

Post by Guest »

My friends:

You will see a lot of questions from me now that I'm preparing to start my engine for the first time.....

I know I asked, and someone answered my question about the proper valve clearance adjustment cold........but I can't find where I read the answer! I know that hot is the way to do it right, but I wanna have everything at least close to right, to minimize the possibility of any UPS! or "F**K....what the F**k happened!?!" kind of complications. Please help!

By the way... are there supposed to be any lock washers on the nuts that secure the rocker mechanism to the head? And what is the correct torque for these?

Thanks again everyone!

Brian says:

<Oringinal post>Cold is .002 closer than hot.<Oringinal post>
Should read "Cold is .002 farther apart than hot. Metal expands and closes the gap." SA

As to the rocker arm bolts I do not believe there are any lock washers on them. I do not know off hand what the torque for those would be either. I will try to look it up when I get home tonight.

Steve:

Now I remember Brian's reply regarding valve clearance....but still can't remember or find where it was! As to the rockers, thanks for the info, and for following up on the torque. I have one of the Nissan's original manuals (the ones with the really bad english!) but nothing on the torque. Thanks again Steve...and of course, Brian!
