So the saga begins...

Post by nking79 »

I made final arrangements to have my Datusn shipped to the place thats doing the restoration in PA. Hopefully it'll get there Mon/Tue. I meet with the guy on Wed to discuss the condition and what needs to be done.

I know, I know... everyone says its easy to learn myself. I'd rather spend the money to put the right parts in the car and get it done quickly and correctly. I'm hoping to be drivng it in the spring.

I'm still debating whether or not to have him do the interior of the car, which needs to be completely replaced. How easy is that? How many hours? If you need to see photos, go to http://datsunking.tripod.com

Go for the interior!!

Post by Dan Zubkoff »

My personal recommendation....Go for the interior.

The vinal kit kits are 500ish bucks and will make your general experience with the car SO much better.

On my 66 1600 I had an Okay interior...but after having the new red inetrior installed, its like siting in a new car.

Spend the extra...get rid of the old , smelly seatcovers...

Where did you get your interior? I too need to redo red guts on the ratster and would like to lean on someone who has done this before.

Interior Kits

Post by datsun65 »

Most of the vendors carry the interior kits.

My interior is from Les, at http://classicdatsun.com/

Les also did the installation. The quality of the interior is remarkable and the workmanship of the installation, impeccable.

The car was shipped to the restoration shop and I met with them on Wednesday morning. The tour showed Neubert's Restoration was able to do everything from beginning to end. They had several Z-Cars, an old beetle and an old Porche plus a few others.

Though they didn't look closely at the condition of my car, they said my budget of $5000 would get the mechanical aspect of the car going and the interior fixed up.

If I can magically come up with more money I would have them go into more detail...

The wheels on the car go round and round. Round and Round...

Post by nking79 »

I got to visit my 68 1600 before Christmas to see what progress has been made. The wheels were removed, cleaned up, painted and put back on. My deflated and cracked tires have been replaced with a simple all purpose, all weather tire.

The restoration place wanted to do this so they could easily push the car around. They're now ready to begin major machanical work on the car! If you have a magnifying glass, my little photo near my name has been updated...
