Coils tend to run a wee bit hot as the they deal with very high voltages. Did you bypass the ballast resistor or is it still hooked up? The stock system has a ballast resistor to increase the voltage to the dizzy during startup. If you are running a coil that does not require a ballast resistor you could be damaging the coil with a stock dizzy setup. Yet one more reason to go with a Gary Boone EI dizzy as the ballast resistor is no longer required. Oh yeah, you are running the aftermarket EI as well aren't you? Petronix makes a coil that requires a ballast resistor. I bet you have one that does not but still have the ballast resistor hooked up. Sorry--thinking out loud again.
