Newbie from Miami

I joined to forum a while back, but I have never posted anything. So anyways just saying hello, and of course I need help .

Always loved Datsuns and Nissans so when I got the chance I bought one. Did no inspection just pressed buy.

The car looked great, but as soon as I started driving gasoline started leaking, I changed the float. All good now.

The car is great, but I always noticed a leak. For that very reason I don't drive the car far for now.

One day the clutch was gone. I replaced the Slave Clutch cylinder. I thought that was where the leak was coming from, but no.

With the car back running, I still keep noticing the leak. You notice it once the car is parked over night.

Everyone says that transmission fluid stinks and most of the time is red in color, but mine doesn't smell at all, and its almost clear.

So anyways to make a long story short. I started investigating and after searching online and in the forum I came to the conclusion that it must be the transmission rear seal, were the Drive shaft meets the transmission.

Mind you I have never worked on cars before. So I wanted to take it to a mechanic, but they are hard to find here in Miami, FL.

So decided to try to do it myself, which is why I got the car in the first place to try to fix issues and gain experience.

So I went ahead and removed the Drive Shaft, and found something unexpected. Not sure If is residue or a filler, because it was cracked?

Can someone help me identify the orange on the end of the transmission. Thank you in advance for the help. Much appreciated!

Welcome! Automatic transmission oil is red, manual transmission gear oil is typically thick and smells. I'm wondering if you're seeing clutch or brake fluid... thin, not really oily...

Hey welcome! I haven’t been on this forum in years but I’ll definitely say if you need help this is the place to be. I recommend printing a lot of the tech wiki information or at least bookmarking the page for future reference.

To get to your issue. My transmission fluid is blue. But typically transmission fluid will turn yellow over time. You most likely have leaks in many different areas if you can’t exactly pinpoint a specific location.

I recommend next time you drive to park over a large clean white drop cloth or blanket/sheet you don’t use or need. Then after sitting a while look under the car to see the areas it is leaking. Leaking at rear main seal is very common.

It’s a good idea to drain all fluids as soon as you can. Then you can get a baseline to when fluids were last changed. It’s not hard and is very satisfying knowing you have all fresh fluids.

Oh and last but certainly not least - DONT drive if you’re leaking fuel! That’s a quick way to burn your whole car down. Your fuel lines run next to the headers and it doesn’t take much to catch fire and once it goes it’s very fast so always have extinguisher in the car too.

Hi Greg, thanks for the welcome and the input. Well I did have clutch slave cylinder leak before, but I think that is no longer the issue. I will keep and eye on it.

Hi Nick, Thanks for the welcome. I think I am just going to wing it and remove that goop and replace the seal. I am about to do it. Wish me luck. Oh and yeah after the gasoline incident I bought an extinguisher.
