H190 Diff swap with truck axles

Post by jake7140 »

First venture into differentials. In my roadster I have an H190 4:11 diff with 520 truck axles (30mmX29 spline). I have a H190 4:63 LSD for std roadster axles that I would like to swap in. BUT I WANT TO KEEP THE TRUCK AXLES.
It looks like the lsd unit is built as one unit with no way to swap in components to allow me to use the truck axles with the lsd? Other than swapping in the 463 r&p are there options to keep truck axles with the 463 lsd?

You may know this, but If you swap in the 4:63 ring and pinion you will need the 4mm spacer since the 4:11 ring is thicker than the 4:63. By the way I have a good 4:88 ring and pinion I would be willing to let go.

The side gears on the posi vs. open diffs are different so you can't use an open diff truck side gear in a posi carrier. This set, which I damaged the spider gears, shows the side gears have slots for the clutches.

So there are still side gears inside? But would have to find a set from a truck lsd as well as bearings (tho my guess is bearings could come from any carrier for 30mm axle)?

Thanks Mike. I think r&p swap involves too much. And really want to be able to swap fairly readily.

You could probably find a locker spool for a truck and put it in and only need to set the ring gear depth.
