Just picked this up yesterday plate says 1965 1500 but the motor number I believe is a 1600. The interior looks to be from a much newer like 68-69.

You have a Johnny Cash car…it’s a 65-66-67-68-69 I built this car one piece at a time
68-70 dash, early door hardware, and a 65 VIN plate. Look on the top of the frame under the front carb for the frame VIN number. It is lightly stamped so it may take some cleaning to be able to see it.

I looked earlier on the frame but didn't see anything. I'll clean it up and check. May need to wire wheel. Thanks

Pretty sure that the windshield wipers are opposing, indicating an early model body tub.

Looks like it’s possibly a 67.5 tub, the windshield frame and driver door are low windshield 1/2 year. The engine by the number is probably a 69 vintage engine and who knows what else has been done to this car. Does it have a dual master cylinder for the brakes? Very strange car, maybe Frankenstein roadster?

Have you had an state inspection on it and passed ?
If so I'd forget about it
If state wanted an ID OD inspection
It could be determined that it's pieced together, doing so the person needs receites and notarized papers or its considered poss.stolen and destroyed later
