I realize this is an old thread, but thought I might have a larger audience using it as opposed to starting a new thread.
I have a '68 2000 (3014) and it only came with one key. I recently bit my tongue and ordered a replacement key for it from one of the vendors listed here. When I got it in hand, it's 3/16" shorter than the original key. Talking with a locksmith trying to find an aftermarket blank so I have a backup, he noted the original is a 6 pin key and the new replacement is a 5 pin key. I don't want to cut the 60+ dollar key only to find it won't work. Is there a way to find out how many pins my locks are? The difference is at the tip of the key and it has no cuts on it. But if there is a pin there that doesn't require a cut, then it won't work. If they are only 5 pin tumblers, then it should be fine to cut it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, the one working key works ign, doors, trunk, and gas cap. I figure somewhere along the way, someone had them rekeyed to match.

I’m pretty sure the 68 and later cars are 2 key cars.

Page 6 of the manual shows it to be a two key system.
