In search of Shifter knob and Windshield Washer bag

Post by Cary »

Hi Forum Folks,

I will be grateful for any suggestions on finding two items for my wife's 1967 1/2 1600

The shifter knob (4-speed) and the windshield washer bag. The photos below are of the current parts.

Many thanks, Cary

Hi Cary,

The OEM kangaroo bags are super expensive now, if you can find one. Here's a new Toyota replacement for the old Land Cruisers:

https://vintageteqparts.com/products/no ... -fj60-fj62

I bought one and it's a perfect match for the Nissan hanger and is made by Denso in Japan. It's not Kangaroo, but it is period correct.

As for the shift knob, I think it can be restored. I had a U20 knob that looked worse, and using 303 Aerospace Protectant and 3M 3000 grit Trizact foam backed sandpaper, it now looks pretty much like new. Extra fine steel wool would also probably work, too. Use the 303 soaked 3M paper or steel wool to gently remove the scratches (be patient) and for the last step, wrap the clean knob in a paper towel soaked in the 303 solution to bring the color back. You'll be surprised at the results.

Cary,
I have 3 options for you. No new originals ones. The last time I saw one it was either $400 or $500.

I have a Denso one like the link but it's in black, It's Nissan but it doesn't have the cool Kangaroo. I have a couple non working old Kangaroo bags but not much better looking than what you have. I have one or two other options too. I have to pull them all out of the garage as I'm not sure which ones I sold and which ones I didn't.
I'll try and post or email you tomorrow.

Hi Cary, that toyota bag looks pretty good, I'd go with that for the price....The shift knob you show isn't original. (Likely a 510 or b210 knob). We have originals of course if you want the correct shift knob.

We have just about any part you might need :smt023 Lynn&Jim

To JT's point. I believe the 510 and Z knobs have a different thread than roadster's anyways so they may not thread in anyways, but I could be mistaken.

Here are two options to consider:
Any one of these are $125 plus shipping.
They all include a New Nissan bracket.

1. The "Budget-Friendly Kangaroo Washer Bag" - your solution for a cost-effective yet stylish addition to your vehicle. Crafted with affordability in mind (Chinese Cheap), this washer bag offers a touch of sophistication without breaking the bank. Comes equipped with an authentic Nissan washer bag clip.

2. Real Kangaroo bag. Not working. Intended for cars missing bag completely but want one to show to fill in the space. Not 100% sure it came from a Datsun as other Japanese cars had them as well.

3. Black Denso Bag. Real Nissan. In later years the Light blue Kangaroo bag was replaced with this model made by Denso. This is a new Nissan bag. I've sold a few over the years but do not plan on purchasing anymore. I believe this is my last one. There may actually be Denso writing on it if I remember correctly (I used an Internet image rather than dig my actual one out.
