Coast to coast… and coast again in a roadster!

Post by cole455 »

As many of you know, my dad and little brother drove the 67 2000 from NC out to the west coast this summer to participate in the Solvang, Shasta and Shedd roadster meets. The car left Winston Salem, NC and initially drove I-40 and parts of Route 66 westbound (even stopping for snow in northern AZ) before meeting up with a SoCal group at bowlero for the final push into Solvang. After Solvang, they drove mostly I-5 northbound before positioning the car in Portland, OR, in anticipation of the Shasta meet the following month. The car made an uneventful round trip to Shasta and went back into hibernation until Shedd in August. After the Shedd meet, they took a northern route home, stopping in Wyoming (seeing wildfires along the way), Sturgis, and several other stops not quite as interesting. Overall, between all 3 segments, the car drove just over 8,000 miles, only suffering minor issues along the way (an intake runner plug worked its way loose as well as an alternator bracket… gotta love those rough roads!).

As for me, I was able to attend the majority of the events and flew out with my 8 year old son. We had an amazing time meeting up with friends we hadn’t seen in over 20 years, as well as making many new friends along the way.

Special thanks to Harlan, Rochelle, and Bill for putting on these amazing events. And a huge shoutout to the Neill’s for sourcing some better hardware for the lower alternator bracket!

Anyways, I’m going to attach some photos to this post and will probably update along the way, as I’m still waiting on photos from brother. Thanks again, everyone!

More photos from Solvang and parts of Shasta. Not sure why some of these are posting sideways… Notoptoy, feel free chime in so they don’t all load that way 😂

This is the last of the photo dump from the trip. I should have more to upload later on. Thanks again, everyone!

I edited it, it was actually just over 8,000. Still quite a trip in a Datsun!

Wow, what a fantastic ride! And all with only 1 windshield wiper! Good to hear you only had minor issues along the way.

I had a great conversation with your Dad at Shedd. Impressive family connection to that car. So cool!

Very cool! Wish I could’ve made it. I had it off but already took off for Solvang and Shasta with our 8 year old. My wife was hoping I could stay closer to home and do something white the family before the summer was over (so I did).

I’ll tell dad. And so I know who to mention, what’s your name outside of the forum?
