For those who have followed this saga and would like an answer…I spent a few hours with David Witt who is indeed a magician! I limped my car up the hill afraid I wouldn’t make it, but did actually get there. We tuned the carbs, set the points and the timing and a few other little things. The bottom line is that the carbs were way off. First there was no oil in either one. Secondly, the barrels were dirty. The front carb was very sticky in terms of trying to move the parts up. It turns out that the needle was rubbing on the orifice which was not centered correctly. The needle was also too far down so you couldn’t even see the shoulder, limiting how much fuel ratio we could adjust. Once those items were fixed and the air flows were synched and the file was set, it ran like a sewing machine! One very happy and thankful camper right here in Carmichael!
