Has anyone found a replacement for the smaller spring on the late model hood latch?

Did it break, or assuming it will when dis-assembled? The whole unit looks like an evapo-rust candidate, give it a long soak. It may come out pretty nice.

This assembly is actually in good shape. That is mainly surface rust.

We have several other assemblies that are missing this spring. This is why I am looking for replacements.

I wonder, do the other model latches have the same spring? I see a lot of the Datsun 520 521 and 720 truck look similar and there are plenty on ebay. It's an option, not sure if it fits though.

The trucks and other models with the hoods that open upward from the front have different latch mechanisms. I looked at the Z latch and it is just a little different using an expansion spring. The SRL has this torsion spring around a pin.

I was able to find a spring that works for the latch. It does not look like the Datsun spring, but it is functional. Pretty close to the same tension.

PLEASE share the part number and source so it can be added to the tech wiki.

They are from Lee Spring (leespring.com) In AZ.

These are LTL054K 07 S

I had to buy 4 springs as they have a minimum purchase surcharge. They were about $12.50 each.

I'd sell a couple if there was any interest.

Thank you for posting your solution and closing out the post. Nothing drives me more crazy searching other car sites than incomplete posts when you're trying to solve a problem!
