Hey folks. I'm having trouble finding pictures or illustrations of the under dash area, passenger side, to plan my free space usage. Please see pic attached and let me know what should be mounting to the tabs hanging down from the steel tub and share please share pics of yours!!!

(( I suspect that the circular holes are for fresh air and/or heater vents? ))

THANKS...

Yes, air and defrost vents. I no longer have a heater core but wonder if those tabs are for mounting it.

The large hole on the right is the heater air intake and smaller hole is the fresh air vent the tabs are for mounting the blower fan for the heater.

Thanks Phil!

While I was changing my transmission oil I popped the access panel off just to have a look at the general condition in there, and THIS fell out
shifterinsert.jpg
According to this diagram it looks like one of two 'shifting inserts' (part 10)
fig 22.jpg
Everything else in there looks good, no excessive wear or chipped teeth. And I can't seem to reinstall the piece with the transmission assembled, so I just put the panel back on, filled it with some gear oil and took it for a test drive. The 2-3 shift has always been a little difficult, but I honestly have no idea what the part is supposed to do, besides seek freedom.

If anyone has any info on what this little piece does, I'd love to hear about it. I will probably drop the engine and trans at some point to paint the engine bay, so I could take it apart and see about jamming that little guy back in.

That’s out of a Warner transmission, I think it’s called a shift dog or something like that. It would require completely disassembling the transmission to put it back in place. It’s number 10 on your parts diagram.

Hi Forum members....can anyone tell me if the later, tail light bulb housings, with the plastic twist-lock bulb holders, were originally painted on the inside ? I have some that are painted an off-white.
My original, early tail light bulb housings were un-painted.

Hi Greg,
I'm wanting to provide an additional pair of brake lights by swapping in the later style, 3-wire bulb housings with the plastic twist-lock bulb holders, in place of the 2-wire, single filament running lights. All four of these used, later style bulb housings were painted white on the inside only. Because the paint was chipped, and aged, I removed it easily with some Acetone, and I'm wondering whether to re-paint them, or leave it bare. I would opt to re-plate them, along with some other parts, but I have low confidence that my local plater won't lose, or mess up any parts I take to them.

Ah, the Datsun quirks.
I have 2 sets which have 3 wire bullet connectors, not plug-in. All of my re-build menagerie is gathered, meaning none came from a single car being restored, so I don't know the year. (I thought I'd seen some with plugs like a 69/70 Z car has?). I have been plating them, leaving the inside white painted as I received them. Oddly, (until this discussion) a single one had no paint. I've felt bad for the orphan wondering how that slipped through Quality Control and if anyone ever got caught. Looking more closely (I wondered if a previous owner got fancy but no), they are factory painted white. Very durable paint, a bit off-white, not bright white, but having several sets to compare, they are factory paint. Since Greg's is 67.5 maybe that is the date they made a change? IMO, the paint reflects better than plating color, especially with the old bulbs.

Thanks, Greg and Drieseck ! That is exactly how I would describe the paint I found inside of my 3-wire housings. The info needed was not really critical, but when I'm focused on a particular aspect of Roadster fiddling, I become compulsively interested in everything about it.
Asked, and answered !
Thanks again,
Mike

The short answer is yes. I have several NOS taillights both the early and late style. Several of the late style have that white paint. I think that was done later in production as I have some that are the later twist in style that don't have the paint as well.

Wiring ,small parts lamps were not made by the Datsun or Nissan they were vendor items made all over Asia
It brought plants / jobs to those country's so it helped so their people could afford a car , so varying sometimes in exactness tokico, Nabco, Hitachi, Nipon made mostly
