Flat Dash vs. Center Console - best installation sequence?

Post by Nded »

I'm ready to put the dash and center console back into SPL311-00054. So is it easier to install the console first or the flat dash (with guages of course) first? What's the best practice?

When I installed the dash & console in my 67.5 I put the heater in first, then the dash, then the console. I left the dash mounting screws loose & tightened everything at once.

The only problem I had was that I installed noise deadening pads under the carpet which raised the carpet enough that the console wouldn’t go in so I had to cut the deadening pad out under where the console mounted, then put everything else back in.

I did the console first (also had the deadening pad issue). It made connecting the heater and duct controls really easy. I also thought it would provide a support point for installing the dash. Unfortunately, it made installing the dash a bigger PITA then it already is.

Would installing the dash first have been easier/better? I don't know, but I believe that's what Mister Spreadbury does. Perhaps he'll chime in.

Today I half pulled the harness on the passenger side. It was attached to the coil, the brake lines, and the oil pressure sending unit.

This gave me enough slack to easily hook up everything but the tachometer cable.

Went together much easier than taking out.

I then test fitted the dash cap.

Best of all, she started up when everything was done.
