Still have to reinstall the items that restricted access, but this has been a major PITA progress blocker.

EDIT: This is a DatsunParts.com (aka Dean) dash pad, Item #1292, that I purchased back in June 2018.

Excellent! Been there... drilling into my expensive new dash pad to fit the front twisties required nerves of steel

When/Where did you get that dash pad?

I'm sure glad I found a new Dean dash on ebay for $300. It had just been listed that morning with a buy it now. It would have been gone that day if I hadn't checked first thing in the morning.

Picked up a pair of floor mats off eBay like Dan (datsun65) did. I offered $125 and they accepted. Shipping took about 10 days. Nice quality with a sewn-in logo. The only knock is the driver's side mat is not notched to clear the foot rest on the left of the firewall. Passenger side mat fits fine.

I'm nearly finished with my console modifications. Just need the Warp Drive button to replace the other radio knob.

Nice. Where did you install the amp? What speakers and where?

I put in 4 speakers this week. Could have made 6 work, but that might be overkill. Putting the Bluetooth amp in next.

This is not a "shake the adjacent cars" design, but it meets my requirements.

PXL_20240621_022624923.jpg
I modified a spare fuel gauge into a volt meter to replace the ammeter that I was scared to hook back up.
the whole project didnt take long but the cost ballooned from $9 for the donor voltage gauge up to $50 when I decided to silkscreen the face and my ancient screen printing supplies had dried up in the twenty or so years since I last used them.
PXL_20240613_195944787.jpg
the voltage gauge fit perfectly in the depth left when I removed the fuel gauge guts, but I had to make a couple extra holes in the back plate to get the needle origin in a nice spot. I also started using the original faceplate with a couple new holes for mounting, but ended up making a new one from scratch.
PXL_20240613_222010990.jpg
I mounted the new faceplate and took some pictures with it hooked up to a bench power supply so I could design the new face that would be at least vaguely calibrated. I tried to copy the design and font as closely as possible of the original gauges.
PXL_20240621_024941497.jpg
I originally tried 3d printing a mold and casting a stamp out of silicone but I could never get a really opaque result, so I whipped up a couple silkscreens. The text for 'volts' is in a really tight space so I did 3d print a frame to hold the screen just above the surface and was very pleased with the results!
