Plumbing blue print?

Post by MIUPRoadster »

Okay, I didn’t pull engine nor pull off components so lost in how to put her back together. ‘68 2000.
There is a port in water pump that sends a water line to bathe the carburetor. I can see the “T” on random pictures on net. But I am not finding much regarding how the return is piping goes. I am thinking the heater core return may have a “t” or wye, but have no idea. I doubt it flows through the core due to it having a valve to turn it on.
My engine is at the shop being rebuilt, any information as to where heater core return goes back into the system. 😢 I probably could figure that out if I had the block in front of me.
This is picture I have taken most information from.

Bit lost in da UP and bit early 😂 too

I'm not positive, but I believe the heater core is fed coolant through the Tee after the water pump and before the manifold ... it runs below the carb and to the heater valve in the passenger footwell. If the valve is closed the coolant just circulates through the Intake manifold (not the carbs) and goes through the head and exits where the thermostat housing back into the top of the radiator.

If the heater valve is open it will circulate through the core and exit out through the top center of the firewall and into the rear side of the manifold, into/out of the head and back to radiator.

Scratch that ... I think I got it backwards after looking at the car.

The Tee at the front of the manifold is the return from the top of the firewall and will go back into the manifold. The manifold port at the rear will feed the heater valve.

If I got this totally bunged up I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along.

Attached is a picture of the manifold (SU Carbs ... assume there is somewhat similar design for Solex/Mikuni carbs). You can see a small port at the bottom of each manifold runner which is a coolant passage to the head.

The coolant inlet through the manifold is on the right hand side of the picture. Coolant will pass through the center tube, route coolant into the head and feed the heater core out through the left side. The heater core will pipe back into the tee at the front of the manifold.

Yup my error intake manifold not carbs. When someone tore my engine down they left them attached and just disconnected from block at intake. 😂 hopefully they lost less parts.
I am missing throttle springs studs, nuts, cables.

I figure I will get to know my engine well bt the time I am done. That is lots given I am starting at 0 knowledge
