It does turn easily. Just checked. Cautiously optimistic now. Come on Amazon. Don't let me down. As for the gas, like anything else, if you're willing to pay.. Two race gas outlets near my home. One of the few things I keep from my wife. Others I know get aviation fuel. I'm not privileged enough to have access.

So less frustrated, I just looked in the tech wiki, and it’s listed for your car the proper fan belt for your car is a Gates 7340.

Well, not to go too far off topic, but the engine doesn't REALLY need 110 octane but I bet it runs well in hot weather! If you'd like to save a few bucks, I've been very happy with Boostaine and you could decide how much more octane you want to run. Some complain about the funny color on the spark plugs, but it's worked well in my higher compression engine (11+ or so to 1?). One 32oz can will take 93 octane and turn it into 187 gallons of 96 pretty economically. I carry it around with me and have a bottle to measure out how much to add to 11 gallons of gas. The 32oz can will make 35 galons of 100 octane out of 93 if you need something stronger. The stuff at the parts stores are pretty much junk. Fortunately I have full control over my ignition timing or I might be in trouble. I'm not currently running any booster in these 60ish temps but will add some as they start to climb.

Wow did this thread take on a whole new direction, from overheating to illegal fuel! Someone call the FBI we have confession’s to the use of illegal fuel. Anyway not sure how it got to this new direction, but I think it would be good to stay within the subject at hand. Squirrel

Proof I am not a mechanic. I couldn't find a fan belt to fit. I'm a dumbass, I'm a dumbass. Finally the tiny light bulb over my head lit. I needed to remove the water pump pully. Looks like I'll be ok as long as I can get it back on again. Next week..

I would think the alternator would adjust enough to allow enough slack, no? That's how the belt is tightened...less frustrated wrote: Sat May 25, 2024 1:43 pm Proof I am not a mechanic. Regarding the belt, one could run string around the path (crank, water pump, alternator) then take that to the local store and chose one that is as close as possible while still being small enough to allow you to tension it using the alternator bracket.

The alternator adjustment is not sufficient to install the belt, not even close. I don't know if it makes a difference but the alternator is a GM single wire. I think I'll be able to reattach the pully with the belt on it. I'm out of town for a little while. I look forward to fighting it when I come back.

GM all,
I will confess, when I did my GM one-wire alt conversion, I ran into similar belt tightening issue, and ended up doing the rope and "belt selection" method". The numbers on belts correspond to the millimeters of inside length, so (example) if an xxyy8720 doesn't fit, get an xxyy8750 and you have 30 more mm to work with.
I ended up getting an alt bracket from Pick-A-Part from some other car, as the arc of the stocker was incompatible with the GM Alt barrel size, it interfered with the alt case.
So now I only have like 3/8" of throw that takes belt from loose to tight enough, and when getting the belt over the outside of the pulley, there is very sore skins on thumbs pinched fingers and a LOT of expletives each time. (and I am pretty sure that if I ever had to do it on the road side, I would have to let it cool for 45 minutes)
I'll post a picture later this week.
PS: I just spent a week in Iuka, Mississippi, and can vouch for the fact that there are NO SPORTS cars in NE Mississippi.
