Looking for bolt on rear brake solution, any experience with this Wilwood kit?
Hi Everyone,
In getting the Roadster dusted off this weekend, I found a puddle of brake fluid at the rear driver side wheel, and an empty rear reservoir.
I've been looking at the options for a rear disc conversion, but due to time and a limited desire to really dig in to a parts search from another Nissan, I'm hoping there's a bolt on option.
I came across this from Silver Mine, but I'm curious as to see if anyone else has used this kit and how it went. Says it's bolt on, but of course I want to confirm before I buy.

Thanks!!
Mike

Or buy a reproduction wheel cylinder Brian had made.

I did not try the rear brake kits. I did meet the seller in person at his site and he was very nice. While I did purchase the front kit and while it appears to be of high quality, there were missing bolts in the kits. I was in a crunch to get to Solvang for the yearly show. While knowing this I asked the seller to verify all the parts were there and to check it twice. Well, when installing the kit I realized he left out 4 bolts. I was fortunate to be able to use my original Nissan brake bolts but the price of the kits, surely, he can give the correct parts (especially after asking twice). The Neck wrote: Sun May 12, 2024 10:57 am I came across this from Silver Mine, but I'm curious as to see if anyone else has used this kit and how it went. My only other beef is there are no instructions, just a few photos and they didn't cover critical information. There is a tiny sticker on the back of the Calipers and that's where the brake line inlet is. We missed it and were trying to input like a 311-caliper location has its input.
Anyways after some frustration and contacting the seller, he told me there was an inlet behind the small sticker.
Anyway.
The kit is solid, the instructions are non-existing, and they work well. As long as you are not up against a deadline you should be good. Also consider getting a proportionate valve. I didn't need one but for the rear conversion it would be worth considering.

As I recall someone had made a kit or posted instructions on how to convert to 200sx rear discs. No real braking improvement is likely and anytime you modify something you can open up another box of worms. I have RX7 rear discs that came with the LSD conversion and my parking brake is not adjustable to where it will hold the car, even in the driveway. IMHO, unless you want to do it for fun (which I completelyunderstand!), I'd fix or replace the leaking cylinder and call it good.

That's great info and I'll probably buy ASAP. My other hurdle is the wheel fitment now as I have stock 14" steelies, and the 14" appliance mesh that came with the car originally.
How knowledgable did the seller seem? I'm curious about the proportionate valve, and also what to expect with the stock master cylinder I have.
P.s. I'm not interested in redoing the rear drums, I did them a couple years ago and am more inclined for discs and something that's easier to supply for pads/shoes.

Here's a kit with good instructions for 240SX rear disc brake conversion on the Datsun Roadster...

I was looking at that kit too, I’m going for as bolt on and complete as I can which is what drew me to the Silver Mine kit.
Guessing with additional parts and time to source it’ll be about the same cost.

FYI, the silver mine kit does not allow for an emergency / parking brake. That's important on a manual transmission Roadster.

Thanks for the additional replies everyone, in looking at the lack of e brake and the fact that I'm on the 14" stock steelies, I've decided to just go for the 240 sx kit and will piece it together.
Thanks!!

We look forward to your write up! Good luck... and I can relate to wanting a workable parking brake! The Neck wrote: Tue May 14, 2024 6:27 pm Thanks for the additional replies everyone, in looking at the lack of e brake and the fact that I'm on the 14" stock steelies, I've decided to just go for the 240 sx kit and will piece it together.
