cracked carb overflow pipe
Looking to find a replacement - but if I can't find one, can the pipe be repaired? Looks like a line of solder would seal it....
Crack
Other side of the crack, looks like it has been rubbing
Thanks

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
If that were mine I'd work on getting a replacement of some sort. That looks to have been rubbing for some time in one spot and cracked in another. I wouldn't want a fuel rupture on the same side as the exhaust.
I'll let others weigh in on repair potential.
Best of luck in getting it back on the road as fast as possible!

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
Not hard to replace with new. I used bundy tube (brake line) bent to match the old pipe. You can cut the old tube at the banjo connection and drill out the joint to accept the new tube. Braze the tube to the banjo joint. Make sure BOTH vent tubes extend below the level of the exhaust system to avoid any chance of external combustion. There should be two small brackets mounted under some sump fasteners to hold the overflow tubes steady and prevent stress cracking. They have a rubber grommet mounted in them.

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
Sun City Datsun sells new short versions, you just add hoses to get them down far enough.
I drilled mine out & braised in 1/4” brake line. I made my own mount @ the pan to hold them.
Peace, Pat

Nissan man, where did you find the grommets? I made an aluminum plate with 2 grommets that I mounted to the pan bolts.

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
Mine are home made too. Picked up some tiny grommets from a local rubber store.

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
Thanks everybody. I must have misfitted when I rebuilt the carbs. Got this replacement pipe from Rallye, so that option is not open anymore.
Given the location, I may just cut out the section and replace with an oversized pipe…. And make sure nothing is rubbing!

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
Does anyone have an original pipe support bracket that bolts to the oil pan? I'd like to get measurements to fill in my drawing.

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
You could always use a piece of 1/4 inch fuel line and a hose clamp to drain them below the frame

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
Or braze a new section of 1/4 inch brake line onto the cracked end

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
Hi Curtis, here is a closeup of the brackets I made which would have to be pretty close to the OEM unit.
The stock ones have a round spacer.
The nut is bored out to allow the 1/4" SAE pan bolt to slip through and tighten into the block.
I don't have the exact dimensions available but if you use the nut as a reference, 7/16 hex head, you can guesstimate the size.
I used a 1/4" SAE nut brazed to the flat section to provide the spacer required to allow the bracket to clear the small lip on the oil pan edge. The stock ones have a round spacer.

Re: cracked carb overflow pipe
I just had an order of the overflow tubes made. They are the shortened version not the long ones like OEM as they had a tendency to crack. You just run 1/4 inch fuel hose from the end to under the frame. You can find them here: https://sincitydatsuns.com/store/p367/C ... tubes.html
