Gas not flowing into glass filter bowl

Its been a while since I had the 311 running... so in prep for Solvang thought I would as least wake it from its slumber.

So the car is not starting.

1. Gas in the tank
2. Car is turning over, but not firing. But with some starter fluid it does spring into life momentarily.
3. Glass filter bowl was full of crud. Cleaned it out
4. Cranking the engine, the bowl is not filling

I know I resolved that problem once before, but for the heck of memory, don't recall the fix.

You need a new gasket and also if you over tighten the thumb screw it warps the zinc alloy body and then it won’t seal properly.

A light coat of grease can sometimes help with a dry/leaking gasket - until you can source a replacement. Also check for drt/cracked fuel lines and loose hose clamps that might allow air into the system.

The glass bowl is notorious for sucking air in. As mentioned above, you need to check it for warpage. I removed the filter from the car to do this. If you seal the outlet nipple and suck/blow into the inlet connection you can tell if it is leaking air. Don't tighten up the wire clamp too much, just enough to press onto the cork gasket. When you are comfortable that all is well, run a small bead of sealant/adhesive around the junction of the glass bowl and alloy housing to help prevent any further problems. Use a clear sealant and no one will ever know it is there

I carry a rubber Buna-N rubber gasket that is superior to the factory cork ones.

When those glass bowls hit the dealership ,they left with a plastic filter
Per the DSM ..They had some fume fires and made the decision

Thanks everybody. By some miracle I found a spare gasket in my boxes of bits. And after a bit of a play around got it sealed corrected, gas is flowing and the car running!!!
