Since the search function on the forum is currently not working, I have a quick question. The oil slinger on my U20 is notched like it should be over the key but the key is not sticking out from the front of the lower crankshaft sprocket. Does it spin freely or is it held in place by the damper once that is torqued down? See attached pics. Thanks!

Re: Oil Slinger Question
The notch in the slinger is just to get it past the key, once in place it doesn’t matter plus once the crankshaft bolt is torqued it will not move. The slinger should be in contact with the timing gear and under the timing cover keeping the bulk of oil away from the seal.

Re: Oil Slinger Question
But there's supposed to be a key, Right? It locates the crank pully, or am I just spacing here...

Re: Oil Slinger Question
Greg, you're not spacing, in the picture above I have not installed the forward key for the crank damper/pulley yet. If it was in place Dave is saying the notch on the oil slinger slides over that forward key, and then the crank damper/pulley is installed. On a side note, I mistakenly threw the lower chain tensioner spacer block in my scrap metal recycle bucket with the old tensioners. I was looking all over for it and then it hit me. Found it at the bottom of the bucket. Woo Hoo!
