BAT SOLEX 44PHH for sale
Not mine, but thought this would end up here regardless.
Wish I was in a position to grab these.

Re: BAT SOLEX 44PHH for sale
Sold for $6588.. Good god. I'm glad I got my intake for $250, and traded a bicycle wheel for a set of 45 DCOEs that I traded for a set of Mikuni 44s. That price is insane.

Re: BAT SOLEX 44PHH for sale
Wow!
I have a set almost very similar to that (minus the air cleaner) restored by the infamous Dave Premo...
Wish I could get in touch with the second place bidder!
Good to see they're still worth something.

And it gets you what, 8HP over SU's and another 7HP for the B cam or thereabouts over a stock SU 2000.rwmann wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2024 3:12 pm Add $2000+ for buyer premium, installation, balancing, tuning.

So here are Peter’s carbs ready to install if someone is in need of a set. The heat shield is not in the picture and a set of stacks are included as well.

Sweet, sweet set, that's why they are worth big numbers. They look fantastic, rare, audibly exciting and require talent to perform at their best. (similar to an Italian supermodel.) 15 extra HP was a bonus and often made the difference in 68'. Then, open the hood and see where the knowing crowd wanders. Nice work Dave P.

Power, speed, and midrange drivability cost money. How much can you afford?

Re: BAT SOLEX 44PHH for sale
I have a killer set of 45mm Dellorto DHLA carbs, Mikuni velocity stacks inside custom filters, dozens of jets and emulsion tubes, 37 and 40mm chokes, two tuning manuals... no Roadster owner wants them because they are not Mikuni despite being (IMHO) more tunable, especially for the street. I've never considered BAT and have not put them on Ebay, but now that I know I'm never going back from EFI it's time to sell them...

Re: BAT SOLEX 44PHH for sale
Nothing wrong with SUs, but they simply don't offer the tunability control that a Mikuni style sidedraft offers and often becomes necessary with engine mods. However, there are now other carb options that don't require the Solex manifold and offer a higher degree of tuning vs SUs. Nothing looks like sidedrafts though, or make that sound!rwmann wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 10:14 amPower, speed, and midrange drivability cost money. How much can you afford?

I know it sounds like a great deal of money to put the Mik’s on but it definitely adds to the value of the car. They are also a ton of fun and the hardest part is keeping your foot out of them because they are so much fun. Peter’s have everything that was on the set that sold less an air cleaner, you would still need to do the cam change to maximize the setup and JT has a beautiful air cleaner he makes.

Don't forget the sound. Dual-Mikuni carbs unequivocally sound better than SUs on a roadster. From the moment you turn the key and hear those 4 throats burble to life...you find yourself unnecessarily downshifting and accelerating just for the symphony that follows.DAC21 wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2024 4:04 pm

Re: BAT SOLEX 44PHH for sale
Fewer and fewer people care about that, I'm old enough to care a little. I just don't see how vroom, vroom and 15 ponies is worth 8-10k for a Solex / Cam upgrade these days? As I said "these days" many got in when it was half that or less. I'd say going going your direction with an SR20 is better money spent especially if you can find one not needing a full rebuild.Alvin wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 3:51 pmDon't forget the sound. I'm not here to put a price on anything that brings joy to one's driving experience. Obviously someone was willing to pay for whatever reason, period-correctness, fun, braggin rights, etc.DAC21 wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 4:48 pmFewer and fewer people care about that, I'm old enough to care a little. I think it's funny you equate an SR20 swap into a roadster as some kind of exercise in frugality...they are not what I'd call "cost-effective" nowadays

But yeah...$7k for a pair of carbs on your Datsun is absolutely F^#&#*! mental

Depends if you are doing the work or someone else. True for both upgrades.
