Heritage Classic is a great opportunity to take your old car and just have some fun thrashing it in a controlled and safe environment. You are not bound by a tight set of rules and therefore no protests that your car doesn’t have the exact parts that it should. Just run what ya brung! Usually I am the only one in my class, but since it’s a timed event I just keep trying to improve my times. At the end of the day I can compare my times with everyone else’s. If you haven’t tried it you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. It’s cheap, it’s not nearly as hard on your car as you think, and usually like jr02518 said it’s all done in second gear. Not to mention that your car will be the coolest one there😎

Ok, the differential center section is not the issue. The passenger outer wheel bearing is not an issue. The drivers side, is not happy. The outer wheel bearing was replace and repacked with very good grease. Why this is happening is to be determined. I will trailer the car to the event and take the grief for the noise it will make on course. Unless by some alignment of the stars I can get the bearing and get it pressed on the axel.

Does any one have the bearing specs for that outboard bearing?

Parts are on order. The correct parts. Once again, Datsun ownership is an education. Looking forward to just driving the car and not having to further my education.

I need to admit something, I normally do a good job of identifying any issue. Not with this car. I have waited, patiently to get the into the services of someone who actually has the skills to fix things on the car. How i created the issues is still leaving be baffled. I bent a baking plate on rear drum brake?

The drive shaft might need new U-joints, this was not serviced by me during this saga. The car will need a clutch. Pulling the motor to do this job opens Pandora's Box. The car does have 135000 miles. Does anyone have a good 1600,motor they pulled to do a swap? I am located in Southern California.

This has been a study in guess once, chase noise, find nothing. Now that it has fresh fluid in the differential, everything has calmed down. As a review, the first thing that was rebuilt during this refresh was the rear end. The rear axle was removed from the car, power washed, resealed, new pinon seal, reassembled with new brakes and ss hoses. After apromelely 1000 miles it was making what I thought were bearing noises one one side. Something was definitely rubbing.

Gettid the car looked at, a backing plate had been bent and was rubbing on a brake drum. How I had done this still escapes me. But fresh differential gear oil has quitted the rear end. After only 1000 miles what drained from the diff. was awful. I will be keeping an eye and ear on this as an ongoing issue. I would like a limited slip for the car. I have a spare pumpkin, one of the first spares I purchased when I acquired the car. The shopping continues. David

The drive to and back from the Solvang Roadster Show was an adventure of weather and some lingering mechanical issues, now fixed.

The weather on Friday morning started in the rain, down the 15 and on the 210 west until Pasadena. Then the closer to the coast I drove, it cleared up. Fuel consumption was prodigus, it was running rich. I limped into Solvang, made my way to the parts store and allowed myself to breath. I was rescued by Cole Hastings, He identified that the front Brass float was taking on gas. Not enough to sink, but when removed the shake test revealed that it was taking on fuel.

Ross Mullen had the parts I needed, wilh Cole graciously playing chofer, I got it together and made the Friday opening activities.

The last issue, has been tough to diagnose and ultimately embarrassing ease to fix. My car has mag wheels. It turned out the mag lug nuts are just a hair to long on the driver side rear. When everything was rebuilt, we could torque the lugs, but they needed one more mag washer on each lug to seat the rim on the brake drum. I do not drive the car often or for long distances. Just putting around town I would have never identified these issues. The Roadster community was awesome. The drive home was a parade of waves and smiles.
