Low Windshield Ashtray Cover Slide Rail Reconstruction

Post by ZeroNilNada »

Hi all.

My ashtray cover plastic rails have been falling apart for a long time. That meant that my ashtray cover has never been installed in my car. I recently decided to model them in 3D and then print a set. They turned out really well! If anyone wants the model to print for themselves, just let me know. I'll be happy to send it to you.

Here are some pics of my fix.

3D model of the rail I made.

New parts.

I ground off the old rivets with a carbide burr. Took no time.

Put the new ones on with M3-8 screws and nuts.

The cover slides like new again!

Great idea! I melted a set of rails when I had the assembly powder coated so I had to pull replacements from another ash tray. Thanks for posting your offer!

You might be able to get the file posted in the tech wiki.

Peace, Pat

I’d be happy to do that. How would I go about it? I can provide either the .STL file or the G-Code. Or both!

When I took the guide rails off for plating, I replaced the original rivets with threaded ones, so the dome looks exactly as the originals from a vintage car supplier.

Both the .STL and G-Code files have been sent to the email above for submission to the wiki.

Thanks for the suggestion!
