300ZX front brake upgrade-ish

Post by ADR »

PO had custom Coleman Racing Products rotors made at 30mm thickness and installed 26mm Nissan calipers. You can force these together, but there is no clearance / a bit of rub. Of course, I didn't notice this until it was all mine. It's a project car and not on the road, so no damage done, but still.....

Now I'll be machining the custom rotors down to 26mm, or replacing / selling the 30mm rotors for the 26mm variety, or replacing / selling the 26mm calipers for the 30mm variety. Thanks PO :Tosser:

I see that is an earlier version of our Spriso Motorsports 300ZX big brake kit http://spriso.com/our-products/datsun-r ... rake-kits/

Since you have the 30mm calipers and hats, I would recommend selling the 26mm calipers and replacing them with the 30mm versions (which are easier to find). I can help you find a home for the 26mm calipers as we sell a lot of those kits.

Please and thank you Michael. I'll source the 30mm calipers and come back to you on PM.

Andy,
Did your front brake conversion require a m/c update / upgrade to provide enough juice for the squeeze??

I used the ‘blue Hands’ Volvo o conversion kit, but haven’t as yet gotten the car buttoned up enough to test the brakes. I’m not certain if a m/c upgrade is essential?

Hey RB,
The car has zero miles, so it's not possible to provide a qualified comment. The car has a dual reservoir MC installed by the PO, so it's upgraded from the single reservoir. I'll be swapping the rear brakes to the 240sx discs when I tear down the chassis. After that, I'll play with the proportioning valve and be able to comment more intelligently about whether or not there is enough juice in the system.

The task list is long. This weekend I should be weld repairing the 47 drill hole + chisel method of adding speakers to the vertical sheet metal between the rear shelf and the trunk. I had new material made up that matches the rib pattern, still, a PITA. Thanks PO!
