Libre Wheels

Post by mschel »

Hi, I ended up with a set of libre (libra?) style wheels. They appear to be 14x5.5 but I can't find a manufacturer on them anywhere. They do have the extra rib in middle which some sites say means they are not clones.

They need a very good cleaning as far as I can tell. 3 are mounted, one is loose. The car had a spare tire on it so guessing probably had a bad tire.

Any idea if these are a clone then despite the extra rib? Also, the previous owner said they are magnesium but from brief research I think only the race (?) versions were magnesium. I am afraid to clean them unless aluminum. I used some wd40 to clean the back grime off looking for a manufacturer.

I really want a wider wheel for the car and a different style so I wanted to offer up here for a possible trade or if someone has been searching for a set. I am in central MD.

I would need to either trade or procure another set of wheels for it before getting rid of them. They have decent tires on them but only two are matching as far as I can see.

A little drop of vinegar will bubble if magnesium. Do it on the back side. Also, the unmounted wheel should be very light (<10 lbs I would guess)

Update, I tried the vinegar and it just rolled off no bubbles. I also was able to find the American Racing Logo on the back side so they appear to be original Libre wheels.

Any idea what would be a fair price for them? They are too narrow for my use but I may go ahead and clean them up at some point.
