No headlights and turn signal lights after re installing front end.

Post by Larsb »

The headlights and turn signals were working before I took it apart for a paint job. Any ideas on where to start the troubleshooting process? Light switch , relay, fuse box, wires? The tail lights do work after the reinstallation process only.

Check continuity at the harness connector blocks at the firewall.

Alright I’ll check on that first. If there’s no power to blocks what is the next step?

Unplug them, check for bent or corroded terminals. However if it worked before then that probably isn't the problem. The plugs sometimes seem to be together fully but are not.

A no wire (IC) test lite is a good start very easy to get I to back of dashes ,& etc., need it for IC component cars anyway $20 25 ...,check the wires to and from the fuse block the rivet to wire often has sketchy connections test voltage with a multi meter on neg side ,see if it's dropping much likely negs side bad connect , pos pulls power to it, the wire piercing ends for multimeter leads make it easier

There was a blown 30 amp fuse 2nd from the bottom and i replaced it. But no lights still. I’m going recheck the plug in connections if they are tight and making any connections also.

That's the one ,the fuse holder rivet to wire looses continuity, that's why you need to check wires only

The headlights and parking lights now turn on. Thanks for all the advice! It was the fuse holder not making good contact. However the turn signal lights don’t work with the ignition key on and the signal stalk moved up or down. There is no power to the blinker can for the turn signals. Any ideas?
