Electrical: What’s This?

Continuing my familiarization with my recently acquired SRL-311, I found this “newer” wire coming off the A-Ammeter tab of the fuse block. It has two 15 amp fuses and exits the glove box with the other wires coming off the right side of the block. Any ideas? Could this be the “fusible link” others have mentioned in the main power circuit going through the ammeter gauge?

I also see there is no wire attached to the right side L-Lights post…?

Easiest way to start figuring this out is to try all the electrical items on the car & see if anything doesn’t work, then pull one of the added fuses & check everything again. Then reinsert the removed fuse, pull the other fuse & check again. Once you figure out what they control you can then decide what to do about it.

I’m not familiar with late cars, but what year?

It’s a 68. Everything works, so next I’ll try pulling the fuses. I just thought someone may have seen this mod/bypass before.

This is a headlight bypass recommended by Dann Bramhall (Rallye) for the '68 b/c the fuses tend to get loose and overheated over time. Happened to my '68 (my first roadster) back in the day, and Dann's recommendation solved the problem.

I'm curious. Was this just something Dann said to folks who asked? I'm not seeing anything on the Rallye website or in the old Rallye catalog or catalog insert.

The reference "My 68 keeps blowing the headlight fuse. Why?" is found on Page 219.2 of the Rallye Catalog Insert. Without quoting it verbatim, it says an easy way to fix this issue, is to bypass the fuse box by running an inline fuse around it, for the headlight circuit.

Thank you, sir! That makes complete sense. The headlights did not go on when I pulled one of the fuses.

FWIW, my friend who loves and has several '68 2000's says it makes sense although he's never experienced this issue.

I've seen the issue more than once on a 68. I experienced it myself. Fossil explained the problem to me and either sold or swapped parts for a good 68 fuse box.
In my opinion it would be better to fix the issue than have the work around. This also gives you the knowledge on why it happens and how to fix it if you ever encounter it again.
The fix is on this site somewhere. If/when I find it, I will post it here. It is fairly easy to do.
