Hood Alignment

Post by toadster »

Hey everyone,
What is the easiest way to align the hood on a
'67 1600? I've been fighting with my hood, trying to get it
straight and I just can't seem to get it right. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :D

Here are some thoughts.

Remove the latch assembly on the cowl, but do not disconnect the cable. Leave the post on the hood. Remove the grille from the car. Lower the hood so that it is fully down. Reach through the grill and lower all 4 of the hood mounting bolts. Gently shift the hood to where you want it to be centered. Reach through the grill and tighten all 4 bolts. Raise the hood and install the latch assembly. Don't tighten it down fully though. Make sure that the post is secure and lower the hood down. Gently push it down, but don't latch it. Raise the hood and then tighten the latch bolts on the cowl. That should be really close right there...

Dave,

Hope it helps! The reason for that sequence is that you align the hood in the hole first, then align the latch with the hood. I will be doing the same thing myself on Monday - God willing!!

Nice timing on the question. I need to do the same thing to line up my hood more closely.

Thanks, Sid.

Glad to help! Perhaps Steve could add that to the Restoration Tips.

Steve,

If you want a more detailed writeup with photos, I may be able to do that. Let me know if there is any interest.

I can't tell you how many times I have looked for an explanation and found it here! Wish I would have read this before I put on my new grill on today and never noticed my hood/bonnet/Kuruma no bon'netto was off a little bit.
