Constant Voltage Regulator
I am in need of a constant voltage regulator, voltage reducer, for my gauges for my 1968 Datsun 1600 Roadster. Does anyone know where in the Phoenix area I can find one?
Thx Special-K

There is a cheap and simple fix in the tech wiki. Pat

Re: Constant Voltage Regulator
Is your regulator missing or just not working? If not working, some have gotten them going again by cleaning up the ground. There should be a small wire under one of the tabs on the back side that hold the case together. That is the ground wire, clean up that contact.SPECIAL-K wrote: Fri May 26, 2023 11:18 pm I am in need of a constant voltage regulator, voltage reducer, for my gauges for my 1968 Datsun 1600 Roadster. Re: Constant Voltage Regulator
@unklpat Is this the Tech Wiki article you're referring to ?(see link below)
http://www.311s.org/pmwiki-311/pmwiki.p ... oltRegFix
If so, I notice that the eBay link to buy a Voltage Regulator in @DEVO 's writeup is no longer valid.
Maybe someone can post here specifically what kind of Voltage Regulator is needed and maybe even a new link to buy one.
There's also a paragraph in this article:
http://www.311s.org/pmwiki-311/pmwiki.p ... eshooting
I have no clue about this electrical stuff yet.
Good luck,
pm
Peter

Re: Constant Voltage Regulator
Thanks everyone, I will try cleaning the ground wire. If that doesn't work, I'll ask a friend of mine to read the wiki article and see if he can do what it says. If that doesn't work, I'll continue trying to find one. Special-K

Re: Constant Voltage Regulator
There is also a Datsun wrecking yard in your neck of the woods in Peoria, AZ. He sells Datsun parts on EBay and has a lot of Roadster stuff. I believe his name is Scott. Here is an EBay link to his EBay storefront:SPECIAL-K wrote: Fri May 26, 2023 11:18 pm I am in need of a constant voltage regulator, voltage reducer, for my gauges for my 1968 Datsun 1600 Roadster. Re: Constant Voltage Regulator
I just soldered in the IC, and let it dangle. If anyone wants to crawl under my dash, so be it. If it fails, I'm $3.00 away from fixing it. Pat

Re: Constant Voltage Regulator
I have a 67.5 with original regulator. If you take the cover off you will see the wrapped wire coil and a brass connector/ grommet . This is a very simple Printed Circuit board. I took a stranded wire I had around and soldered it from the grommet to the PC run. That run can handle quite a bit of heat. Re installed and all gauges have worked great for last two years.
I will say I am EE and a tech so this seems easy to me but your results could differ

Re: Constant Voltage Regulator
The problem seems to be the contact with the case on the ground side. The IC solves the problem as long as the ground is maintained. I tried the "keeping it in the case" method, and decided to just let the IC dangle. Pat

Before I install my interior and dash, I plan on "preemptively repairing" my Voltage Regulator, so I plan on trying a solution like you guys are talking about -- but forgive me, I don't know s* about much, and even less about electrical.
So... "IC" means "Integrated Circuit"? Which is the actual voltage regulator, like this that Devo posted?

Kevin, any chance you have photos?
Thanks.
