69 2000 with smog distributor & de-smogged engine
Hi,
If possible, how to operate a smog distributor on a de-smogged engine?
Thx
Seb

Seb, you really need to get the distributor recurved to non smog. The smog distributor is a dangerous thing without the safety devices that were designed to go with the distributor so as to not cause engine damage. Do you have an original points distributor, or have you converted to an electronic distributor? There are solutions out there for your distributor.

Re: 69 2000 with smog distributor & de-smogged engine
Dave, he has a stock smog points dizzy (we confirmed it). I've been working with him and have given him the options as I know them. Question is, can it run ok with a smog dizzy set to 0 and assumed to be operating normally on a de-smogged motor safely? I don't know as I never had to deal with it. Also, consider that this is believed to be a high compression engine (!). Appreciate your insight...

No you just pulled the pin and you’re waiting for it to explode. It has to be recurved!!!!

Ok, thanks Dave. I've laid out the recurve/dizzy options for him. I think getting parts into France could be a barrier so he's having to factor that into the process...

Re: 69 2000 with smog distributor & de-smogged engine
Thanks Dave for your comments and thanks Greg (again!). I know i what i have to do!
I have the D417-56K distributor.
I will be looking for a recurve kit soon, and if i can't find it i will go for EI dizzy.
As Greg mentionned, i also have high CR engine with R16 dome pistons with +0.06 bore.
Engine was also knocking and my mechanic could not solve it with advance setting.
Really wondering how the previous owner was running the car and how bad is this engine right now...

Not really, I ship Mikuni parts all over the world, Australia, New Zealand, UK Europe, Japan and more with little trouble. The hardest time I had was with a few countries when COVID first happened. It would only be the cam and springs, as the weights are the same for smog and non-smog distributors. It all fits with instructions in a small USPS international flat rate box.
