Need to pick the brains of anyone who has installed this assembly.
As you can see, the stock bump stop is not centered on the mounting plate. How crucial is the placement of the bump stop?
As you can see, I have gaps on one side of the axle between the mounting pedestal and the U-bolts, but not on the other. On a stock rear axle the
U-bolts are tight to the pedestal on both sides. Is this issue I am seeing on my RX7 axle simply sloppy fabrication when the RX7 axle was modified? How big a deal is this gap going to be? I do not yet know if I will have this gap on the other side since I stopped after finding these concerns.
Right now I have the bump stop the oposite of the stock orientation but not torqued into place. If I spin it around do you think that the gap I see will go away?
thanks
tim

Re: RX7 Rear End, Stock Bump Stops and Stock U-Bolts
OK, so I did the other side with the bump stop oriented correctly and I still have a gap between the U-bolt and axle perch.
There is no gap anywhere else along the U-bolt down to the dampener mount plate.
Is this gap going to be a problem?

Hey Tim, I have an RX7 set up with Flex Form momo-leafs and lowering blocks, but I didn't use the bump stops. I am happy to look at mine but I need to better understand what gap you're referring to...

Re: RX7 Rear End, Stock Bump Stops and Stock U-Bolts
My understanding is that the U-bolts do not provide any lateral (side-to-side) location of the rear axle housing. The location of the axle housing is performed by the pin that fits into the axle perch.
I could be wrong but I believe the U-bolts only provide tension to clamp the lower plate to the axle housing. Thus they do not do any locating of the axle housing, side-to-side. I would put it in service and inspect periodically, like once a week for the first 2 months, then semi-annually.
